Trip to Valldemossa
More inland to the north of the island you will be surrounded by even more imposing mountains belonging to the Tramuntana mountain chain. Driving forward and after a few bending roads one will encounter the beautiful village of Valldemossa. One of the most charming villages of the island with steep and narrow streets, for which it is recommended to leave the car in a nearby parking to enjoy a quiet walk and the surroundings.
Valldemossa is a perfect location to stay for a couple of days either in high or low season due to its fantastic natural surroundings with carob, almond and olive trees. Gifted by a peculiar romantic charm, this gracious town is one of the main touristic attractions of the island due to its outstanding beauty and presence of divers cultural figures along the years, like Chopin and George Sand who stayed in the famous Carthusian Monastery which became their place of stay and inspiration. Nowadays tourists visit it as a museum and can enjoy concerts and recitals of classical music.
Along the town centre one will be able to find numerous small boutiques and traditional shops where to buy from a range of typical handmade bags to local citrus perfumes. Also a considerable number of terraces where to enjoy a sunny afternoon next to a delicious cup of coffee or an ice cream depending the season.
Let us not forget to mention St. Catherine Thomas, Spanish religious and Saint of the Catholic Church who is represented in almost every of its traditional stone houses around the centre and where you will be able to find the mini tiny chapel where she was born in 1531. Nowadays festivities and celebrations are carried in the town to commemorate her yearly.
